Production blog: Sick Day

Image
During the week of spring break, I was suppose to finish up all my filming and editing for this project but, things didn't go as plan. Having already done the second part of editing, I was going to use the week to re-film any scenes that had mistakes or were too long. The reason I was going to do it that week is because we had no school, meaning that I could finish it since I would have the whole day. The reason why I didn't get to film during these days and add to my project was because on of the actors got sick (stomach flu/bug). Having it being the main actor of the film made it worse since they were in every scene, meaning that no filming could have happened without him. Having this happen also made me decide not to film anything for the safety of everyone working on the project. Having this illness spread through contact with the infected meant that if we were to film with the actor, we all would be at risk of getting the illness. Since I didn't want to put the safety ...

Production blog: editing continued

Having the second phase of filming finished meant that I had filmed all the takes needed for the entire film. Although I had the filmed the entire film, it didn't mean I was finished with the project. At this point, I was only getting halfway done with the project and still had many more steps before the film was completely finished. At this time with all the scenes filmed, it was time to edit the project as a whole. This will also help me see what the project as a whole look like and what parts of the film need more work on.  When beginning the second part of editing, I had to do the same thing I did for the first time of editing when it came to moving the takes to an editing software. In this process, I exported and imported the takes from my phone to my computer. After this step, I then dumping all the footage to the film. This would then allow me to drag the footage for each scene and allow me to organize it in order. After organizing the scenes in order, I could now watc...

Production blog: filming continued

Having the first part of the editing done, I could now begin the second phase of filming. During this second phase, I will be re-filming any scenes in the beginning that had any mistakes and also be filming the second half of the film. This schedule fits well during the day since the first half of the film happened during the mid-day when light was still visible. This meant that by the time we finished re-shooting the scenes, it would be dark and thats when the second half would take place. This makes it so that I can use all the time filming since I wouldn't have to stop and wait for it to get dark.Starting the production day off first with the retakes meant that when the actors and I reached the location, we had to quickly begin filming. Knowing that once the day light went away, we wouldn't be able to film anymore of the first half we quickly began to try to finish any retakes of the mistakes noticed. For example, the interaction between the main character and the stranger n...

Production blog: first day of editing

Image
Having the first set of takes from the first day of filming meant that I can now move onto the first part of editing. Before I could start editing the film, their was a few steps that I had to take to integrate technologies. These steps our essential as it is the only way for me to actually start editing all the takes. During these steps, the takes will me exported and imported from my phone to my computer and then dumped into an editing software system. Now having all the takes that we film so far, I can now start creating the first scenes of the film. Dragging and placing the takes in order, I saw how the film looked without no editing. This was to see how the film looked like all together to be able to see what parts need to be cut out. This is important to the film as the parts that need to be cut out will help the film look smoother.  Eliminating the choppiness will not only make the film look better but, also allow for the viewers understand the film and the directors v...

Production blog: first day of filming

Image
During the weekend of March 6- March 7, was the first day of filming for my film. This meant that we Broke the first set of scenes between Saturday and Sunday. For the start of filming, we decided to take it slow and film a few scenes one day and just resume where we left of the following day. Taking it slow allowed us to make sure that what we were filming was good in quality and not rush. This slowness would later benefit me in the future when it comes to reviewing as I would see less mistakes and errors with the film. This is because while filming it allowed me as the director to break down each scene I filmed with the actors, going through the process and explaining what the character is going through in their head. Breaking it down also allowed for the filming to move more smoothly. This smoothness was enabled to happen because of the actors understanding with the scene after the breakdown, eliminating most of the pauses they would have while acting and confusion of a scene presen...

Production blog: non-filming day

Image
As of right now, I have not started to film. The reason for not filming is because of the schedule created to make the making of the film run smoothing. Having just created the script, it would be to be rushed to start filming 2-3 days after. Filming this soon would not only leave the actors figuring out how they can perform a scene in the last minute but, also leave the acting in the film looking off or not the best. This can ultimately throw off the entire film as bad acting can make the film seem unfinished and off to the viewers making them not want to continue watching. Instead of leaving the film making rushed, I want to give the actors sometime with the script. Giving the actors time to read and take in the script will allow them to better understand the story and how they will portray it. This will not only boost their performance when acting out a scene but, it will allow them to test out different versions and add their own twist to make the characters their own. Adding more ...

Planning blog: Storyboard

Image
In the following pictures, I will be showing the storyboard I created for my film. In this storyboard I will be showing a breakdown of the scenes that will be in my film, showing how they will look like. This step is very important as it will guide me when directing the film. Showing how each scene will look like will help me as I already will know how to film a scene and what angles to use. This is ultimately the directors vision in drawing form and hold the structure of how the film will look like.

Planning for the final task: location, health, schedule and more

Image
Schedule: 3/1/21- 3/2/21:   Actors will revive script and storyboard. This will give the actors time to take in the film and understand what they will do and prepare for their roles. During this time the actors will be able to ask any questions about the film and eliminate any confusion before filming. 3/3/21 All props and costumes will be gathered in order to prepare for filming to begin. This will help as it wouldn't leave me in a rush at the end to get the supplies I need while making sure that I have them without risking a store not having it in stock. 3/4/21- 3/22/21:   The first set of filming will take place. During this time I will record all takes of the scenes with different angles. This will then allow me to review what I like and didn't like in the following days. 3/23/21- 3/24/21:   The first part of editing will take place. In these days I will review all the takes closely and make sure that I have scenes that I want keep and others that I might have...
