Final Task: Creative Critical Reflection

Image
Having Murder Complex finished and published, it was time as the film maker to review the journey that I went through. This was done by answering Creative Critical Reflection questions that made me think of how the project help affected me as a film maker. This Creative Critical Reflection (CCR) was done through a 12-15 minute video were I answered 6 questions. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text? How did your production skills develop throughout this project? How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

FInal Task: Murder Complex

Starting this project with the pitch "When hanging out with his friend turns to being hunt down by a stranger at his apartment complex, Juan must find a way to survive the night." it has been a long journey. Although I faced and overcame many challenges, One takeaway from this project that I learned a lot more than I ever did before when it came to film making. With this being said, I am very happy and excited to present the film Murder Complex.

Production blog: End Result

Although my project has changed from my original idea, I am still very excited and happy with the results at the end of the day. Having started this project all the way back in February 15, I have witness how many changes because of the steps I have faced. One of the biggest changes I came upon was the scenes selected for the film because of the time frame. Having only two minutes for the film, when editing I witness that when adding all my takes the film went up to 3 minutes and 30 seconds. To correct this, many of the scenes I had in the film either had to be cut or shortened sacrificing some of the dialogue when it comes to characters interacting and even taking away the plot twist. With some scenes having to be deleted to fit the two minute time frame, I still made sure that the film still had scenes and had an aspect of the killer trying to kill the main character. Although I made to take away many scenes, I still feel like I captured the story I was trying to convey and for that

Production blog: Final Changes

Having the peoples review completed, made me confident in my film. Although I was technically finished with it I still am using my time wisely. Instead of waiting for the day it needs to be turned in, I am reviewing my film very carefully. This is because the more times I view it, the more things I will be able to correct. Not only is this step important to the film but, also crucial if I want my product to be the closest thing too perfect. When reviewing the film, I made sure to write down any little mistakes I noticed. This would then help me later on when I went to make the changes. This not only made it faster but, easier as I knew where I had to go to fix a mistake and ultimately making the film look smoother. Although, I fixed the mistakes I noticed, it wasn't the only thing I changed. Another thing I changed that I felt would make the film look better was the timing of the credit as it would make the film look better and more official. During this, I made sure to change some

Production blog: Peoples Review

Having finished both the filming and edit process, the project as of now was finished and the final product was set. Although I had nothing else to change in the film, I still wanted to make sure the film looked good and understandable in the eyes of the audience. To do this, I showed the film to my family and friends. When showing them the film, I wanted their honest opinion as it would tell me how the film actually looks like in the eyes of some else without the directors vision. This would ultimately see if the plot and storyline was clear and if the film looked smooth. I showed them the film twice, the first time without telling them anything about the film to see their raw reaction and then the second time telling them the pitch of the film. This was done to see the difference between the raw reaction and then the reaction after hearing the pitch. This would help me see if the pitch matched the film showed and if they could have made the connection or even created the plot before

Production blog: Editing Finished

Image
Having all the filming for the project finished meant that I could start the final editing for the project. During this process, I added all the takes that I rerecorded with the mistakes corrected to fit the film. When adding these new takes, first I had to delete the old ones and drag the new ones into place. These would allow for all the scenes to be in the correct order and time sequence. After having these scenes in place, I was now able to edit the film to make it smoother and clean as a whole.  When making the final edits of the film, I first watched the film from the beginning without making changes. By watching the film without changes, I could write editor notes on the parts I liked, didn't like, and parts that need to be cropped/shortened. I did this serval times until I felt I had enough notes and couldn't spot any more. By gathering all the notes together, I could now start editing from the beginning of the film and edit as I go through the film. This would allow me

Production blog: Filming Finished

Although having one actor end up sick during a week like spring break delayed the final production of the project, it was something that I could easily overcome. Even though all I wanted to do is film to finish the filming process, it just went that I had to wait a little bit until it was safe to film. Having the actor become sick in the beginning of spring break, it was until the Tuesday following up spring break that he became healthy enough to film. Just to make sure that it was actually safe to film, I didn't start filming backup until the actor went to the doctors and was given the ok to be outside. That is why I as soon as he went to the doctors and was told he was healthy again on Tuesday, the very next day we began to film again. On Wednesday when I started to film again, I went right into filming with the actors. This is because I didn't want to film on another day. I knew that I could get it down all that day and be able to complete the project to see how it will end
