Production blog: filming continued

Having the first part of the editing done, I could now begin the second phase of filming. During this second phase, I will be re-filming any scenes in the beginning that had any mistakes and also be filming the second half of the film. This schedule fits well during the day since the first half of the film happened during the mid-day when light was still visible. This meant that by the time we finished re-shooting the scenes, it would be dark and thats when the second half would take place. This makes it so that I can use all the time filming since I wouldn't have to stop and wait for it to get dark.Starting the production day off first with the retakes meant that when the actors and I reached the location, we had to quickly begin filming. Knowing that once the day light went away, we wouldn't be able to film anymore of the first half we quickly began to try to finish any retakes of the mistakes noticed. For example, the interaction between the main character and the stranger needed to be re-done since enhance the suspense and awkwardness of the interaction. This was done by exaggerating the reaction the main character made. Getting these scenes done would also be important as I had to cut some parts out to fit the time frame of the film, so when I re-filmed the scenes I tried to cut it down to 5 seconds or the shortest it could be for each scene.

After having the retakes complete, the actors and I could now begin the second half the film. Just like the first half, we decided to walk through the scenes. Knowing how things worked this time, we were able to walk through the scenes quicker and able to film more scenes. During these scenes, another aspect focused on was the timing of the scenes. Trying to fit all the second half with the first half and it coming out to 2 minutes was important. Although this was important, I also didn't force the scenes to be filmed in a short amount of time since I knew that I was going to be able to cut some parts out during the editing process. Making sure that each scene was filmed the way I wanted it to be finished, we wrapped up the day making sure that all scenes were complete. Having all these scenes complete was crucial since, during the editing process I would see how long the film would end out being with all the scenes put together. Thats why for the next few days, I will only focus on the editing process and make sure that the film fits all the criteria. These days will also show me again what parts need to be re-filmed due to mistakes or timing but, most importantly it will show me how the scenes pre-final product will look like before I am able to fix everything I notice is wrong.
