Production blog: first day of editing
Having the first set of takes from the first day of filming meant that I can now move onto the first part of editing. Before I could start editing the film, their was a few steps that I had to take to integrate technologies. These steps our essential as it is the only way for me to actually start editing all the takes. During these steps, the takes will me exported and imported from my phone to my computer and then dumped into an editing software system. Now having all the takes that we film so far, I can now start creating the first scenes of the film. Dragging and placing the takes in order, I saw how the film looked without no editing. This was to see how the film looked like all together to be able to see what parts need to be cut out. This is important to the film as the parts that need to be cut out will help the film look smoother. Eliminating the choppiness will not only make the film look better but, also allow for the viewers understand the film and the directors vision better. Having this done will also help we see what parts I need to redo to fix any mistakes noticed. These mistakes noticed will be fixed in the following days on the next filming day. This will make sure that we have the beginning fixed and perfect before we are finished with all the filming days and we cant film anymore. I feel that by doing this, it will help the film making process smoother and quicker as a whole. When cutting the parts that I didn't need, like the ending of the take where it shows that actors finishing the scene, I am able to see how much time the film has left. This will also help me out since I can see how long the rest of the scenes can be. Most importantly the editing process allowed me to try out how to add the credits to the film. At first I found this difficult as I didn't know how it was suppose to add to the film but, when seeing that I works the same way the title worked I found it to be easier. The next step for adding these credit was to make sure that it enter the film smoothly and left it smoothly, I made sure it did this by making it fade in and out of the film as it followed the music in the background. This was crucial to the film as the scenes had to hit the music and credits. This was important since it had to be smooth when it came to the finishing of the credit and music, so that it wouldn't be an abrupt change between sound to no sound when it came to the beginning out dialogue. Once this was finished, the first part of editing was done and the next step was to go and re-film the retakes needed and some more scenes to add to the film and editing process.
