Production blog: first day of filming

During the weekend of March 6- March 7, was the first day of filming for my film. This meant that we Broke the first set of scenes between Saturday and Sunday. For the start of filming, we decided to take it slow and film a few scenes one day and just resume where we left of the following day. Taking it slow allowed us to make sure that what we were filming was good in quality and not rush. This slowness would later benefit me in the future when it comes to reviewing as I would see less mistakes and errors with the film. This is because while filming it allowed me as the director to break down each scene I filmed with the actors, going through the process and explaining what the character is going through in their head. Breaking it down also allowed for the filming to move more smoothly. This smoothness was enabled to happen because of the actors understanding with the scene after the breakdown, eliminating most of the pauses they would have while acting and confusion of a scene presented itself. Since I decided to take it slow instead of getting as many scenes done as possible, I decided it would be better to take multiple takes of a scene in different ways. Filming the scenes multiple ways with different camera angles and movements, also will benefit me later on in the editing process as it will give me options of how the scene looks by itself and in the film as a whole. Since my film is a horror movie, one aspect I had to follow is the aspect of it being dark and creepy. When it came to, I decided that the film should start later on the say when the sun is starting to come down and it's cloudy. The reason why this was done is because it eliminated any sunshine that the sun brought, which would make the scenes seem darker and gloomier. During this time, we shot the very first scene of the film as the environment best fit the scene and gave a creeper and mysterious vibe to the film. Using the natural light would also make the seen look more natural as well. After this first scene I decided to film some of the scenes that were set during the night. Since there were more scenes that took place during the night, I didn’t get to finish half of them. Although I didn’t even get near to being finished with half of the scenes, I was satisfied with the takes we did complete since I knew I still had plenty of time to finish all the scenes. During the next following days, I will take and give the actors a break and focus on the first part of filming. These days will help me see if anything needs to be fix or add to make the rest of filming run smooth.
