Filming the Music Video

Image
This Project was filmed on November 27. Since we had more time for the project, technically having the whole week since I was on Thanksgiving Break we had a better chance to film without going to our backup plan. Before we started to film, I made sure I had everything needed to film like the props and clothing since they are key points in the music video and MISC-EN-SCENE. Once I had everything prepared, we went to the two locations for the day as the scenes would be filmed at. When we arrived to the locations we spend some time going through the scenes and see how the camera angles would look like since in the previous commercial project this was important, so I didn't have to take more shots with the 12 I needed. Now having more experience in filming from past projects like the commercial project, this time filming was a lot more easier. Some of the things I noticed this time that were different from last time was getting the shot was easier by having more scenes/shots because of...

Planning Storyboard for my Music Video

Image
In the past project of making a 30 second commercial I was faced with creating and drawing up a storyboard, this scenario is happening again as I make my Music video. Some of the differences which make up the challenge I face is that now being a 60 second long film, making the storyboard 12 scenes long unlike the previous 6. The challenge that is brought up for me is that now I needed to make up more scenes to be able to fill out all 12 and best capture the music. These are the scenes created that I feel will best fit the video and follow the lyrics. First Scene: In the opening of the music video a white scene/ title card will pop up, which will show the name of the song "Don't You Worry Child". This will allow for the viewers to know that the following music video song is called. This scene/slide will end by fading out, starting the next scene. Second Scene: This scene will following what the lyrics describe. In the music video the beginning of the song starts by saying ...

Planning for my Music Video

Image
The next phase of the music video project is the planning stage. I would plan out what I would do for the 'Don't You Worry Child' music video. During this phase, I would write what my props, costumes, location, schedule, and back up plan would be. This would help me later during the project as it would keep an organized schedule on what to do. I would review these steps throughout my project to make sure everything is going as planned. This phase is important as it builds the structure that the music video would soon be.         Props:  As of right now the prop I plan on using in the video is a picture frame showing an image of a father and son. This would represent the passing of time. The video would show the son growing up and the father passing away, while the son continues to grow. The picture frame would symbolize the feeling of nostalgia. What the video will try to show is the son remembering the good and bad times he has gone thr...

Research blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
To learn more about how music videos should be record, I first had to research the conventions they had. This research was done either by watching other music videos or searching information online. Although I had to watch other music video to understand some conventions, it was important to mainly watch music video from the Swedish House Mafia. The reason why it was important was because as the creators of the song, they might have similar conventions in all their music videos that make them unique. While watching some conventions I noticed were slow motion, telling a story, and the youth. These conventions were scene in many Swedish House Mafia music videos. These conventions seen throughout their music videos it separates and distinguishes them from the rest.  Another major convention not only used in the groups music videos but, for everyone is the use of different camera angles. These camera angles in any music video are use to show a certain aspect ...

Introduction to the Music Video Project

Image
In this following Project I will be filming a music video that will be 60 seconds long. The song I picked was to make the video is  Don't You Worry Child by Swedish House. The reason why I choose this song instead of another one is because of the lyrics. I feel that the lyrics give a clear picture of scenes that should be filed to create a music video. This is because when hearing the song, it automatically paints a picture in your head of what happening as each verse tells a part of the music video. For example, a part of the lyrics says " Up on the hill across the blue lake Thats where I had my first heart break " which gives an easy shot since its picturing someone getting broken up with at a Lake. With the song already telling a story, as a director and planning out the Music video all I would have to do is follow the lyrics and pick which pictures come to mind when hearing the music video. Doing this would allow me to create the scenes and see what major parts I wou...

Commercial Conventions

Image
In the Wilson X Gatorade Commercial, conventions seen other commercials involving basketball and sports drinks can be also be seen in the one created. Typical Conventions are that are seen in the commercial are a basketball, basketball court, sports drink, athlete, training. These conventions are used to capture the storyline and make the viewers better understand what the commercial is trying to advertise. In the commercial the main focus was a basketball and a Gatorade which the video revolved around and used the conventions to best portray the products. This commercial represents social groups and issue by showing how a products quality can effects the consumer. In this film, the products point out that when you use quality products you can perform the best but, when you don't use them you perform terrible. This is a common issue in athletes lives as they always want to become better and in this commercial, we show them that with these two products they can play their best. The ...

Wilson X Gatorade Commercial

Image
With the ending of making and finishing the commercial, I am truly happy on the outcome of how the Wilson X Gatorade commercial ended up. Through the process of this commercial I learned a lot about filming and editing. One of the biggest aspect of filming that I learned through this commercial was how to use the different camera angles and movements. Although I already know what the angles and movements were used for and how they look, this was my first time using them in filming. The thing I took from this was that a camera angle can define a scene as it tells shapes how the viewers react. This can make or break a scene because if the incorrect angle or movement is used it can interrupt the storyline making the film look awkward. This is why it was important to cover all camera angles and movements to see which one best fit the scene. For this reason I feel that I have improved on my filming skills. Another important skill developed beside filming is editing...
