Commercial Conventions

In the Wilson X Gatorade Commercial, conventions seen other commercials involving basketball and sports drinks can be also be seen in the one created. Typical Conventions are that are seen in the commercial are a basketball, basketball court, sports drink, athlete, training. These conventions are used to capture the storyline and make the viewers better understand what the commercial is trying to advertise. In the commercial the main focus was a basketball and a Gatorade which the video revolved around and used the conventions to best portray the products. This commercial represents social groups and issue by showing how a products quality can effects the consumer. In this film, the products point out that when you use quality products you can perform the best but, when you don't use them you perform terrible. This is a common issue in athletes lives as they always want to become better and in this commercial, we show them that with these two products they can play their best.

The products presented in the commercial engage with the audience by relating past life experience to what they're watching. In the commercial we see an athlete training bad, this helps the audience connect with the commercial as everyone who plays a sport can relate to having a bad day of training. This helps the commercial make the audience gravitate to the product as they don't want to have bad training. This commercial can be distributed as a real media text through television and ad breaks. This would help as it would be the center of attention of the viewers. With the Commercial being the only thing on the screen, it is more likely that the viewer will be more likely to remember the products and attract them to purchase it before they forget.

Through this Project my Production skills developed by improving on filming with a camera and editing. Through this project I learned how to capture a camera angle or movement when filming allowing me to get different views of the scene, since this was my first time doing this I automatically improved my skills each time I learned something new. When it came to editing my skills improved by making the film look smooth, cropping a scene at the correct time to look like the camera didn't cut. During most of this project it was the first time I did most of the filming and editing, so each time I learned something and incorporated it into my work my production skills developed and made it easier to keep working and fixing how the commercial looked.

The first use of technology I used for this project was in doing some research about the kind of commercial I wanted to film, and what I wanted it to look like. Once I knew what type of ambience I wanted to create I contacted a friend of mine to star in the video, through the use of my cell phone. I also used my cell phone to film my project using its video recording capabilities. After filming the scenes I wanted to include I uploaded them into the iMovie software of my laptop. This program allowed me to edit what I had uploaded, by cutting clips, muting sounds, and creating the scene sequence I wanted. I listened to a couple of songs on Youtube that I though would fit the energy demonstrated in the video. I downloaded the song I chose and was able to import the audio file into iMovie and edit it to my project.
