Cutting and smoothing the Wilson X Gatorade commercial

Image
Today was the where I took all the takes I had from filming day and I used the clips to make the commercial. Before beginning the editing process some steps were required so that I could have the takes on my computer. The steps required that I had to do were importing and exporting the takes from my phone to my laptop, after this I had to dump all the footage on iMovie which would allow to drag the footage that I wanted to. These steps allowed me to finally start editing. One of the most important parts of being the director and editing the commercial was that I got to decide what parts I wanted and if I wanted to shorten a clip down to a certain point. This was Important because being that the commercial was only allowed to be 30 seconds, time was important and I couldn't have long clips as it would waste the space I had. Since time was crucial, after I picked the takes I wanted I then looked through them to see if I had unnecessary seconds that I could just clip out of it. Clippi...

The Takes of Filming the Wilson X Gatorade commercial

Image
The day of filming my commercial was on Thursday, October 29th. Before we started to film I as the Director of the commercial I wanted to make sure that the athlete (a friend) knew what each scene was going to look like. This helped me and made it easier to show the vision I had for the end result. This is why before I actually started to record our takes, I made the athlete reenact every scene to see what he thought of them and see if he wanted to change or add something in. During these practices, I watched him go through each seen, so that I could redirect him if I wanted him to do something a certain way so that it would look better on camera. This would soon be found out to effect the filming of the commercial later on which I didn't know of. The reason why changing the way the athlete played effect the video is because when he performed a move, it didn't look as good on the camera then originally thought of. In my planning I list the camera angles I want...

Planning Storyboard for my Wilson X Gatorade Commercial

Image
When Creating the storyboard for my Commercial I was stuck on what I wanted the drawing to be. One thing I wished I knew then that I know now that it makes it a lot easier beginning the the first and last slide. By doing this step it then allowed me to see what major parts I wanted to capture to better improve what my product(s) stood for. Once I figured out what I wanted the slides to be I then drew these scene in six different boxes to create the storyboard. The scenes I drew up are:  First Scene In this scene I wanted to show the contrast, this meant that I had to show what other product gave the user and how bad it is. This is why for this scene I will have the athlete/basketball player lose control over the ball and not be able to dunk it. This would be shot in a wide shot to allow for the viewers to see all the movements the athlete takes as he practices and misses the rim. Second Scene This Scene would be filmed in a Mid-shot. This is because I want the athlete to be t...

Planning of my Wilson X Gatorade Commercial

Image
After the research of the brands and products was finished I then set up a plan/outline based off of props, costumes, set, location and backup plan I need moving forward. This step was very important because this plan will help me know what I need and what I'll do during that time. This would keep everything organized, so that I can use my time wisely and not waste it while filming. This outline would also help me if theres a situation where I wouldn't be able to film, so that i'm not lost and I can keep moving forward along the project and not make it look rushed. Thus, this plan will guide me through this project and make it be the best it can be. Props: In this Wilson X Gatorade Commercial the two main props that are going to be the main center piece of the commercial are Wilsons Evolution basketball and Gatorade sports drink. This commercial will revolve around these two product as it is going to be the main focus in advertisement. These two product will be the only pr...

Research blog: Commercial Conventions

Image
The products I choose for the commercial was a Wilson brand basketball and Gatorade sports drink. In the beginning of brainstorming what product(s) I could film the commercial for, I looked towards the things that interested me. Thats why when I choose the product I looked at everyday things I used and had fun doing. One of things I really enjoy is playing basketball with my friends and having that as the base of the commercial, I then realized that a major part of the sport is the ball being used. With the recent news of the NBA changing their ball brand of Spalding to Wilson, this was the best option and reasoning of picking the product.  Another big part of sports that I like was drinking fluids that help you perform better and Gatorade is one of the biggest brands that comes to mind and covers this. This is because Gatorade has made it seem that drinking its sports drink while tired will give you a boost and help you perform better.  After finding the product I researched ...
