Title Research: Get Out

 Using the website www.artofthetitle.com, I have gathered this information on the opening sequence of Get Out. This will help me when creating my title and title website for my film. 

What titles are displayed during the opening sequence?

In the opening sequence of Get Out, the very first thing we see is the production company. This is important because it allows us to see how big this film is, having a bigger production company means there is a bigger budget for the film. The following of the production company name we see that actors names and anyone else involved in the film. This is done to give credit to anyone who was worked on the film.

What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

Images and scene of the environment take priority as they built up leading towards the ending. This shows that the directors want to be clear that nature will take a big part leading into the movie, having it symbolize something greater. Another big aspect is the difference of living sustainable and living somewhere broken down, this is shown if the pictures focused in the camera.

What connotations do these images carry?

The connotations that these images hold is that life is valuable. Even when including the nature we see that is is considered valuable and precious, but can also do very dark at the same time. This is shown as they show the woods look dark and creepy. This is also done in the photos in the camera as it shows dark photos.

How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?

The film establishes a feeling of the genre form the outset by starting the scene in the dark night. This allows the viewers to see that the night is creepy and have have evil lurking around. Another establishing feature is the lighting used in the beginning, having the light be very plain giving the scene a darker tone than regular light would give.

What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

Some strategies used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience is the lighting used. In this film we never capture a scene with sun light, this is because the directors want to make sure the the essence of darkness and being gloomy is being presented. This leaves the audience with the chance of knowing that no light and hopefulness will happen in the film but, the darkness will grow.

How has technology been used efficiently?

Technology in the film Get Out is used correctly by having the camera have quick transitions. This allows us to see more scenes and different objects which we can see has a bigger picture to them, symbolizing certain things that add to the plot and overall theme/message of the film.

Enhancement in Filming and Editing

Being that this project was the second official filming project I had, their definitely things I changed during and after I finished the project. Although I knew I was happy with the results, there was still for improvement and with the time I had left before the music video was truly due thats what I did. If I felt that a scene should be reshot or edited more thats what I did. By doing this, I would make my film look better as I improved the shots took and the smoothness of the film. I believe making these changes truly helped my film as developed the storyline. One of the main reasons why I decided to change a few scenes is because of how I felt with them. Looking over the film and being "ok" with a scene didn't fit right with me and thats why I decided to change it by redoing them to improve camera quality and camera angles to better fit the screen.
