Production blog: Editing Finished

Having all the filming for the project finished meant that I could start the final editing for the project. During this process, I added all the takes that I rerecorded with the mistakes corrected to fit the film. When adding these new takes, first I had to delete the old ones and drag the new ones into place. These would allow for all the scenes to be in the correct order and time sequence. After having these scenes in place, I was now able to edit the film to make it smoother and clean as a whole.

When making the final edits of the film, I first watched the film from the beginning without making changes. By watching the film without changes, I could write editor notes on the parts I liked, didn't like, and parts that need to be cropped/shortened. I did this serval times until I felt I had enough notes and couldn't spot any more. By gathering all the notes together, I could now start editing from the beginning of the film and edit as I go through the film. This would allow me to edit the entire film as I go scene by scene following the notes I made.

While going through the editing project, one big problem that I face was the time frame of the movie. This meant that while going through the film, some scenes had to be cut out to save time. When deciding how to fix this problem, I wanted to take out and shorten scenes while still keeping the integrity of the film together having it still hold a storyline. For this reason, I decided to take out some of the close-shot scenes like the moving boxes inside the car. The reason why I chose these type of scenes is because the storyline could still be intact without them, meaning that the viewers could still understand what his happening without seeing it with either common sense or dialogue. Another major aspect that I cut was the scenes involving the killer and the dialogue talking about him. This was done because I viewed it as adding more mystery, having him pop up out of no where and start killing. This aspect would be taken out of a horror movie called "The Strangers" where a group of killers come out of no where and start hunting people.

As I continued throughout the project I kept of these things in mind, having the film have the same techniques throughout the film making it sync together. Making sure that everything flowed right into the next scene even with the credits fading in and out of the film, I wanted to make sure that the viewers understood the storyline. When I finally got to the end, I started to review the film again by watching it from the beginning multiple times. Allowing me to see if I spotted any mistake, I was able to see that my film was fully finished when it came to the editing process. Although this process complete the editing for the film I still wanted to see how my film look like through the eyes of peers, therefore the next few days will be taken to listen to any opinions and critics of my film. This would allow me to better improve my film and how I present the storyline.
