Music Video Creative Critical Reflection

As a part of this media project one of the major components was the use of conventions and how the music video used them. In this music video, the conventions used were different from normal conventions used in films since every music video is different from each other. This occurrence of having different conventions happens since every music video tells a different story. In my music video I uses conventions like settings and Mis-en-scene. I found it that these two conventions best fit my music video to tell my storyline and could also be found in other music videos. The reason that the music video uses settings and Mis-en-scene as the conventions is because both of them allow me to tell the passing of time in the story. In the story I was able to change locations to show a different time period in the character life, and I was able to show the character growing up in these different time periods with Mis-en-scene showing him wear clothing a child would wear to represent his youth to then showing him wear business attire as an adult. Without these conventions that I used, my music film wouldn't have been possible as my storyline wouldn't make sense skipping around making the film look choppy. This would have made my music video bad as the viewers wouldn't have been able to understand the storyline I wanted to show. For these reasons the conventions used were vital to the film and the storyline trying to be told. This music video represents social groups and issues as it shows the struggles that certain people and teens go through in life. The reason why my product/film represents these certain groups and teens is because the storyline told could be a real world situation that some people have gone through. Showing the effects of depression on the character by losing his father and getting his heartbroken could be deeply related to what real people have gone through. This brings light to the fact that all this sadness could bring depression to the many people who need help. Although this music video might cover the topic of depression for a little, it also fights the issue by showing a positive outcome. In the end of the music video it shows that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel and that if you get through it, it will get better. This is why the product can represent certain group and teen since it covers many real world problems they face.

My music video engages with the audience by the same way it represents social groups and issues. By relating with the audience, showing a moment that they can share  making the viewer understand and relate to the music video as some of them have gone through the same situation. This would build a relationship that the audience and the character as they will know exactly what each other are feeling throughout the entire music video, making the viewers have an interest in watching the music video and having them remember it even more. This music video will target more than one group since they're certain points that some people can relate to more then others, but others can relate to something that the other doesn't. Since the video shows heartbreak, depression, and hope those are some of the main groups that the video is more likely to attract. Brining these groups together will make the music video bigger as it will make other want to view the music video as well, to understand why it's attracting that certain audience. Covering these certain topics are the reason why my music video will engage with the audience in the way it does, making sure that the audience remembers the music video and shares it trying to spread awareness of the topics it covers.  My music video will be distributed as a real media text through the internet. The reason why my music video would be distributed through the internet is because it is on the the biggest ways that people can view it and be able to share it having it gain more traction in views. This could be done through YouTube, Facebook, or Twitter as they are one of the biggest media streams were the music video could gain the most spotlight and be shared multiple times by several people. Making it the best way to be distributed as a real media text and also have it engage the audience all together in just one platform.

Throughout this project, my production skills developed dramatically. The reason why it was so dramatic is because it was the first time I had to match the film with the audio. This was difficult for me at first because of the fact that the audio didn't match with the film most of the time. In this situation I either had to add or cut the film or audio with it still being in the timestamp of 60 seconds. For this, I had to look at the film closely to be able to see when I should start another scene or make the current scene longer so that it could match with the music video. I struggles on this until I decided that the best option was to cut in half the music video and use certain parts that I needed. I did all this while having to rewatch the music video each time, so that it would still look smooth and be able to tell the story so that it could be understanding to the viewers. Having learned this, made my production skills develop since it was the first time I had to actually edit the sound rather than the film. Learning this will make it easier for me next time that I have to do it since I learned how to overcome this obstacle, now not getting stuck on the same parts that I encountered.

Through this project I integrated technologies (software, hardware, online) in serval ways. Having filmed the takes of the music video through my phone, I made to import and export the takes through my phone to my computer. After I had the takes on my computer, I then need to select all of them and insert them to iMovie which would be the editing software used.  This process would allow me to choose which takes I wanted to use, having to drag the takes down to be able to start editing them. After having all the shot on the editing software, the integrating for the film section would be done. The next thing I integrated was the audio I used. Since I had to use a song that already existed, I made to search online for it. When I search the song I made sure that it was a MP3 as thats the way I would place the song in the editing software. Downloading the MP3 onto my computer made it easier for me just to insert the audio onto the film over the takes, replacing the original audio of the background noise of the takes. Now having this complete would also complete all the integrating technologies into the editing software but, I still need to integrate one last thing, The last technology that I integrated was the final product from the editing software to Youtube (online). Having to download the film online so that I could publish it and make it for everyone to see was the last thing, making the process complete. Having done this was all the ways that I integrated technologies from software, hardware, and online.
