Title Research: The Shining

Using www.artofthetitle.com, this is the research gathered for the film The Shining and its title. Giving information about the film in its opening sequence, we can learn a lot about the film before it starts.

What titles are displayed during the opening sequence? 
During the opening sequence in the movie The Shining, we see the the name of the actors, title of the movie, production company, directors, and producers. This gives the audience background information of who worked on the film. These titles also gives credit to the workers, acknowledging their work.

What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
In the opening sequence we see that images of a road that goes through hills and mountains that lead to a hotel. These images are shown to all us to allow the viewers to understand the setting that the film will take place at. This setting will help us understand some of the struggles that the character face in the film.

What connotations do these images carry?
The connotations that these images carry show the struggle the characters will soon go through. These images show that the hotel is secluded somewhere far away not being near any other human population. We can infer that it will take a long time for backup or help to reach the people at the hotel.

How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?
The film established a feeling of the genre from the outset with the music being played. Having music with a deep tone makes the film have an eerie presence like something bad is bound to happen. This can also be seen through the small car shown as it goes through large landscapes symbolizing that its fragile and weak compared to other things.  

What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
Some strategies used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience is its use of creepy music and a creepy location. Having the music emphasize that something bad is going to happen, the audience can be pleased to know that they will end up watching something evil unfold. By showing the creepy location as well, lets the readers connect the house to an evil presence like it being haunted.

 How has technology been used efficiently?
Technology in the opening sequence was used efficiently by show all the scenery through the journey to the hotel. Showing us that you have to go through several large hills and mountains in the middle of no where to get to the hotel allows us to see the great distance it takes. This technology allows us to understand that receive help at the hotel seems almost impossible.

Starting the Final Task

 My name is Juan Guerrero, I am currently in the 11th grade at Fort Lauderdale High School. I have taken four Aice classes including the classes i'm taking this year. Enhancement in Filming and Editing

Being that this project was the second official filming project I had, their definitely things I changed during and after I finished the project. Although I knew I was happy with the results, there was still for improvement and with the time I had left before the music video was truly due thats what I did. If I felt that a scene should be reshot or edited more thats what I did. By doing this, I would make my film look better as I improved the shots took and the smoothness of the film. I believe making these changes truly helped my film as developed the storyline. One of the main reasons why I decided to change a few scenes is because of how I felt with them. Looking over the film and being "ok" with a scene didn't fit right with me and thats why I decided to change it by redoing them to improve camera quality and camera angles to better fit the screen.
