Genre Research: A Quiet Place

In the movie A Quiet Place we follow a family try to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. This is because there are mysterious creatures that hunt the human race by their sense of sound. This family consist of a father, mother, son, and daughter who is deaf. As they try to find a way to fight back, the family must find a way to do so silently. Throughout the film we see that with even the single sound of  crack from the floor makes the difference between life and death.

What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?
One of the elements that I found the genre I chose to base my final task that this movie has is the element of suspense. In this movie we see that the family has many encounters with the creatures trying to kill them, making us get on the edge of our seat wondering if they will get found. Another element adding to this suspense and tension is also the addition of different camera angles used. In this film we see angles like close-shots allow the viewers to detect the fear of the characters as they hide. These elements not only make up the movie but, guide it through the genre of horror.

What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like?
One of the biggest element that this movie holds dramatically is the element of sound. Having even the slightest sound happen could cause a great deal of problems as they avoid death. This shows that the sound made is very important. In my film, I will make sure that I use this aspect. My character will have to make sure that the noise he makes doesn't give away his hiding spot since it can lead to the killer to find him. This will make sound not only a big element in my film but, the genre as well.

What elements of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you?
One of the elements of the genre of horror that the movie had that I did not appeal to me is the element of light. In some scenes of the film, I saw that sometimes it was to dark in a room to point out what was happening. Although it might have created suspense and tension as the viewers didn't know what will happen, it also left many clueless having to wait until better lighting to figure out what happened/showed. In my movie I will make sure that there is always enough light to make the scene visible enough to have the viewers understand what is happening.
